Questions are part of the process.
Whether you’re new to acupuncture or just want to know what to expect before your visit, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions here.
General FAQs
What conditions do you commonly treat?
We commonly work with patients seeking support for pain, sports injuries, muscle tension, stress, sleep concerns, digestive issues, men’s & women’s health, and fertility. Because Chinese medicine considers the whole person, we base your treatment on both your primary concern and the underlying patterns affecting your health.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most patients find acupuncture comfortable and relaxing. The needles are sterile, single-use, and much thinner than medical injection needles. You may notice a brief pinch, heaviness, warmth, tingling, or a gentle ache around certain points, but treatment should not feel sharply painful. Please let us know at any time if you feel uncomfortable.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on the condition, how long it has been present, its severity, and your overall health. Acute concerns may respond within a few visits, while chronic or complex conditions usually require a longer course of care. After your initial assessment, we will discuss a treatment plan and adjust it as you progress.
Do you accept insurance?
New Heights Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine does not currently bill insurance directly. Payment is due at the time of service. Upon request, we can provide a detailed receipt that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies, so please confirm your acupuncture benefits directly with your plan.
What to Expect
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your first visit begins with a detailed conversation about your current concerns, health history, lifestyle, sleep, digestion, stress, and other relevant symptoms. A traditional Chinese medicine assessment, including tongue and pulse observation, helps guide your individualized treatment. We then perform acupuncture based on your specific needs.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can easily be adjusted above the elbows and knees. Depending on the areas being treated, we will provide appropriate draping. You are also welcome to bring shorts or a change of comfortable clothing.
How should I prepare for acupuncture?
Please eat a light meal within a few hours before your appointment and arrive well hydrated. Avoid arriving on a completely empty stomach, after consuming alcohol, or immediately following an unusually intense workout. New patients should complete their intake forms in advance whenever possible and arrive 5–10 minutes early.
How We Can Support You
Can acupuncture support athletic performance and recovery?
Yes. Acupuncture may help relieve muscle tension, improve mobility, reduce overuse discomfort, and support recovery between training sessions. Treatment is tailored to your sport, training schedule, movement patterns, and current symptoms. With more than ten years of personal strength-training experience, Jun understands the physical demands of consistent training and heavy lifting.
Can acupuncture support fertility and IVF treatment?
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine may be used alongside fertility care to support overall well-being throughout the process. Treatment can be adjusted according to the menstrual cycle or different phases of an IVF protocol, with attention to stress, sleep, digestion, and other individual concerns. It is intended to complement—not replace—the care provided by your reproductive endocrinologist or medical team.
Do you prescribe Chinese herbal medicine?
Chinese herbal medicine may be recommended when appropriate and is always individualized according to your health history and traditional Chinese medicine assessment. Please provide a current list of medications and supplements so potential interactions and safety considerations can be reviewed. Herbal recommendations are never made solely on the basis of a diagnosis or symptom.
